Powder Puff Football Fairview Style

Moms love photos of their kids and my mom never gets any photos of me, so for her, I'm posting these of her 54 year old daughter playing our first game of Fairview Powder Puff Football. We had a great turnout and there are more action photos to come. Here's our group photo, including an exchange student from China who didn't know a thing about American football. There was a rainbow behind us but it faded just as the photo was taken.

Here, I'm blocking Lily from receiving a pass.

One More

Did you notice all the dogs in the football photos? We even brought our dog, Ace, to the Big House for the very first time. Without his partner, Emy, he's not so protective and got along with all the dogs there. A whole new world has opened up for him. Anyway, I thought it quite a sign of the casualness of the affair, that they had to take regular breaks to "scoop the poop" off the playing field. Just so you know, Ace was not involved in that illegal activity. He was an innocent bystander and since this was his first invitation, he was on his best behavior.

Sides' Thanksgiving 2009

Not many photos here. Walker brought us a turkey from the farm so we had a 16 pound pasture raised turkey that was excellent. Everyone made something and Franklin decided to brine the turkey first, something we'd never done. It turned out very tasty. I made the pies, two apple (apples from the farm) and a pumpkin. My theory is: as long as you have gravy and pies, the rest doesn't matter that much. Jake set the table and lit the candles and I can't remember when the four of us just sat around the table with no one else there and no distractions. It was very homey and we're very thankful.

Thanksgiving Football - II

Yes, many of the photos are blurred since they were usually moving too fast to capture. It was beautiful lighting and a beautiful day for spectating or participating.

Thanksgiving Day Football

Yesterday the millionth annual Thankgiving Day football game at the Big House was held. Franklin has his hat on backwards, Walker is in a sky blue shirt and Jake is in a tie died shirt. This weekend we're trying to hold the first annual Powder Puff game. I'm working on organizing it.

Mohawk Mania

Several weeks ago, Jake shaved his head into a mohawk to build team spirit. He ended up shaving quite a few heads on the UNCA team so I guess it worked. Thanksgiving Day, he talked Walker into following suit but Walker draws a line at the pierced ear - or anything pierced for that matter. He has no fro-phobias, just needle-phobias.

The Lord's Acre is Still Beautiful

The Lord's Acre is still beautiful, still producing. Here's one view of some of the beds that are still to be harvested.

The kids garden. This photo was taken around mid-October. It's now almost November and we've harvested all the crops in the kids' beds and later this winter, we'll move them to a new location. Armfuls of carrots and some beets and turnips came out last week and were brought to the foodbank. The kid's made quite a contribution to the overall tally.

Close up of savoy cabbage. One of he most beautiful vegetables there is, especially in the fall.

A bed of romaine is looking pretty. We'll harvest this bed tomorrow morning ad dawn.
