Each weekend, Walker plays on a men's league and Cameron plays on an "adults who need exercise" league. Jake caught these photos and later commented how difficult it is to take good soccer photos - people are always moving and not often are they facing the camera. Still, you get an idea here of hard they play. Of course, they have a great cheering section.
These first two photos are of the new Lord's Acre garden that I've been hired to manage. Franklin is plowing up our first half acre while Steve and Larry work on the graden shed. Jake found this puppy on the track at UNCA. He has one blue eye and one brown. Darling pup and great photo. The grape hyacyth is blooming and I have no idea how to spell that - a fact which takes nothing away from their beauty.
Four of the cousins (Nan & Franklin's boys) were at Tuckaseegee together and Grandma called and asked Cameron to please get photos of them all together. They've been posing like this since they were babies and Jake was making trouble even back then.
Jake & Sara get away from mid-terms. Walker and friend-from-childhood - Tim Wander sunbathing. Hunks try to move a log. Walker & Cameron find a moment.
The young folk recently took a strenuous hike to Rocky Fork. Here Cameron and Lily Clarke take a breather. Mark Clarke makes his funny photo face. A good view of the lookout. Walker - Cameron - Jake - Sara - at the lookout.
These first two are of snow from outside and inside a window at Walker's house down the road from us. Dressing for a COLD day outdoors. The girls are waiting for breakfast.
I have a mustard seed and I'm not afraid to use it !
Who's Who
The Sides Family in Fairview, NC.Updated: April 2011Susan: is Mom, blogger and photographer. She was a homeschool mom and now works for The Lord's Acre - a non-profit garden that provides food for the hungry, garden education for all and community through service.
Franklin: is Dad, Gerton Postmaster and closet inventor. He knows everyone, can fix anything and is indespensible. Current projects are remodeling the rental house and turning our property into a productive small homestead.
Erik: Erik is 34, lives in Miami, is on his way to being a paramedic/firefighter and is Susan's oldest son. He's the official brainiac and computer geek of the group, now also, buff workout junkie. He taught himself Japanese and can talk faster (in English)than anyone I know. He's trying like heck to get on the Miami Dade Fire Dept but they're having a hiring freeze.
Walker: Walker is 24 and lives and works half a mile down the road. He is farm manager at Hickory Nut Gap Farm. He doesn't have a 6-pack, he has a 12-pack - stomach that is. He grew up helping on the farm that he now works for and as a little kid, used to walk down to the barn almost every day in the winter and look for lambs that had just been born or that were in trouble. Little did he know he'd grow up to work there.
Cameron: Walker's girlfriend, finished her masters from Appalachian. She's now back here working on a grant funded project for The Lord's Acre.
Jake: Jake, 21, graduated Magna cum Laude from UNCA in May. He's studying for the MCAT. A friend recently called him "a freak of nature" because he's athletic, artistic, disciplined and crazy - all at the same time.
Sara: Jake's FIANCE who lives in TN has been able to come visit more lately. She is busy remodeling her grandparents' old house. She also keeps an eye on Jake when he plays cards because he cheats.
Kelley: Is living with us again this year, this time as Garden Field Manager. The garden, under her care, is looking amazing, and without her, Susan would be pulling her hair out.
Taylor: A live-in intern this year. Taylor is 20, from Mt. Dora, FL (we know you've never heard of it but I actually lived there too) and has been a great addtion to our team. Oh, and he LOVES milk and peanut butter.
Sarah: Also an intern but from UNC, Sarah is joyful and funny and is training for a half marathon!! She loves peanut butter, children and dogs - not in that order.
